General Information

  • Built as an all-faith chapel funded by and dedicated to Helen Eakin Eisenhower
  • Helen Eakin Eisenhower was the wife of Milton S. Eisenhower, who was the president of Penn State throughout construction of the chapel.
  • Milton S. Eisenhower was also the brother of Dwight D. Eisenhower, who was the 34th president of the United States.
  • Dwight D. Eisenhower laid the cornerstone on January 11, 1955.
  • At its peak usage as the only all-faith chapel on campus, there were six campus ministries and 28 worship schedules in a typical week.
  • Now, the center is home to 30 religious organizations, and holds 3,800 events annually.
  • On September 20, 1974, expansion of the chapel began and was completed in 1976. This expansion formed the chapel's signature U-shaped structure.
